The symbolic clock is ticking.

On January 26, 2017, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists unveiled its latest Doomsday Clock. The time is "two and a half minutes to midnight". This is the closest it's been to midnight since 1953 (when the time was "two minutes to midnight"), when the United States and Russia tested their first hydrogen bombs. The Bulletin said the President of the United States' "casual talk" about nuclear weapons and his disbelief in climate science were key factors behind the decision to move the clock forward.
