Bio
Black Francis is one of the stage names of musician Charles Thompson, best known as the guitarist, vocalist, and primary songwriter for Pixies. He formed the band with guitarist Joey Santiago, bassist Kim Deal, and drummer David Lovering in Boston in 1986. Over the course of the next several years, the Pixies would influence the likes of Nirvana, Radiohead, and Weezer—among many others—before splitting up in 1993. Thompson went on to release a series of acclaimed solo albums under the name Frank Black before the Pixies reunited in 2003. (As of this writing, he has 18 solo records.) The Pixies’ latest, The Night the Zombies Came, was released in 2024.
