David Bazan

Bio

David Bazan is the songwriter behind Pedro The Lion, his longtime on-again, off-again band that has been making records since the late ’90s. He grew up Christian in the Christian music scene, and not long after he began making Pedro records, he had his eyes opened to certain American realities and began writing songs that reflected his dawning political and personal awareness. After more than a decade as an iconic figure within the Christian music scene and secular indie rock, Bazan came out as agnostic on his 2009 solo debut Curse Your Branches. In recent years, Bazan’s career has detoured from the traditional club circuit, and instead he often does month-long ticketed house show solo tours through suburbs, small towns, and other “secondary markets.” He’s issued five solo albums and is a prolific collaborator. In late 2017 he revived Pedro The Lion, and Phoenix, their first new record in 15 years, is due out in January 2019.
