Slated to officially open in the Spring of 2019, NYC’s The Shed will be the first multi-arts center designed to commission, produce, and present all types of performing arts, visual arts, and popular culture. In advance of its official opening, the arts center is developing a slate of programs aimed at supporting the work of both new and established artists. Here, Tamara McCaw, The Shed’s chief civic program officer, and curator Emma Enderby discuss Open Call, a new commissioning program that the two have developed together, as well as the economic and social challenges often faced by young artists.
