Frank DeCaro
Bio
Writer, author, radio host, and performer Frank DeCaro is notable for his contributions to pop culture through a camp lens, which gained widespread appeal during his stint at The Daily Show, where he reviewed movies between 1996 and 2003. His books include Unmistakably Mackie: The Fashion and Fantasy of Bob Mackie (1999); The Dead Celebrity Cookbook: A Resurrection of Recipes from More Than 145 Stars of Stage and Screen (2011); Drag: Combing Through the Big Wigs of Show Business (2019); and, most recently, Disco: Music, Movies, and Mania under the Mirror Ball (2024). Forty-five years after Disco Demolition Night, this book explores disco as an all-around pop culture phenomenon, examining food, lifestyle, movies, fashion, and unlikely crossovers with Broadway—on that note, The Ethel Merman Disco Album is the artifact that DeCaro deems among the most emblematic of the era.
