Glenn Kaino
Bio
Trained as a sculptor in Southern California, conceptual artist Glenn Kaino has also worked with biologists, robotics specialists, programmers, animators, hackers, cartographers, weavers, Zapatistas, and magicians to develop his oeuvre that draws from the mechanics of these specialized nodes of knowledge in order to forge new relationships between distinct forms of matter and thought. He recently launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for With Drawn Arms, an exhibition of drawings, sculpture, and film created in collaboration with Olympic athlete Tommie Smith, who gained fame at the 1968 Summer Olympics for not only winning a gold medal, but by raising his fist on the victory stand as a powerful form of salute. The image of Smith’s raised fist became an iconic image of resistance and solidarity. The collaboration between Kaino and Smith will officially open at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta on September 29, 2018.
