Horsegirl
Bio
Horsegirl is a Brooklyn-based avant-garde power trio, made up of Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece. Nora and Penelope are both students at NYU, while Gigi spearheads a zine by the name of My Boyfriend. Hailing from the raving DIY scene of Chicago’s youth, the band made its splash with their noisy debut, Versions of Modern Performance, on Matador Records. The record’s success culminated with opening slots for Pavement, The Breeders, and Yo La Tengo; festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza; and countless end of year lists. On their sophomore record, Phonetics On and On, the band leaps into the bounds of minimalism and openness, both lyrically and sonically, intimately collaborating with acclaimed producer Cate Le Bon (Wilco, Kurt Vile, Deerhunter).
