J Mascis
Bio
J Mascis is an Amherst, Massachusetts-based indie rock legend, known both for his work leading the trio Dinosaur Jr. and as a solo artist. His most recent album with Dinosaur was 2021’s Sweep It Into Space, while his most recent solo record is this year’s What We Do We Do Now. As a teenager, Mascis drummed for the hardcore band Deep Wound, where he met future Dinosaur Jr. bandmate Lou Barlow. Mascis then switched to guitar as Emmett Jefferson “Patrick” Murphy (aka “Murph”) joined the band, and has since become widely regarded as one of the most influential and best guitarists of all-time—including ranking number 74 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists.
