Katherine Paul
Bio
Black Belt Eagle Scout is the musical nom de plume of Katherine Paul, a Portland-based musician and self-described “radical indigenous queer feminist.” Paul grew up in a small Indian reservation, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, surrounded by family and focused on Native drumming, singing, and arts. After teaching herself to play guitar and drums as a teenager, she eventually moved to Portland, Oregon, and started playing in bands. Released in 2018, Mother of My Children is Paul’s first proper full-length album under the moniker of Black Belt Eagle Scout. The album was recorded in the dead of winter near Paul’s hometown in Northwest Washington. She plays all the instruments on the record herself.
