Manuel Gagneux is a Swiss-American multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who performs under the name Zeal & Ardor. Combining Scandinavian-style black metal with Black spiritual music from the era of American slavery, his work is as unique as it is controversial. The lyrics on his 2017 debut, Devil Is Fine, revolve around the historically revisionist concept of American slaves adopting Satanism instead of Christianity. He lives in Switzerland.
