Meredith Monk’s oeuvre is rooted in universal communication. She sheds the constraints of existing language to weave new possibilities into existence across various performance mediums. Hers is a practice that transcends borders to sketch new landscapes of emotional connectivity. Deeply energized by her Buddhist studies, Monk brings the duality of human existence to the forefront to create art that cradles the coexistence of joy and pain. In this interview, Meredith Monk reflects on her newest work in progress, Indra’s Net, and shares how even in the midst of a global pandemic, she still manages to find elemental inspiration that helps give form to her epic visions. She recently launched a Kickstarter project for an audio and video installation, Rotation.
