Pauliana Pimentel

Bio

Pauliana Valente Pimentel is a Portuguese artist and photographer based in Lisbon who has exhibited her work all over the world. Her most recent show, The Narcissism of Small Differences, recently opened at the Fonseca Macedo contemporary art gallery during the 2018 edition of the Tremor Festival. Over a year in the making, the show presents a set of photographs documenting various aspects of youth culture on the island of São Miguel in the Azores. Here, Pimentel discusses the motivation behind shooting photos in São Miguel, the skills required to try and document the interior lives of people you don’t know, and what can be learned from observing young people.
