Pedro Reyes lives and works in Mexico City. He is internationally known for his large-scale projects that propose solutions to political and social issues. Reyes has turned guns into musical instruments, grasshoppers into ecologically-friendly burgers, museum visits into therapy workshops, and puppet shows into political critique. Through sculpture, performance, video, and activism, Reyes reframes complex subjects and philosophies, and offers up his creative and humorous take on life. In June 2018, his satirical play Manufacturing Mischief, featuring puppet characters based on Noam Chomsky, Karl Marx, Ayn Rand, Elon Musk and Tiny Trump, premieres in New York. We met in his compound/studio/home in Coyoacán, which he designed around a massive two-story library, to talk about the art of social transformation.
