Bio
Sean J Patrick Carney is a visual artist and writer focused on blurring the boundaries between contemporary art and comedy. He is the founder and director of Social Malpractice Publishing, an imprint that has produced over 50 artist books and editions since 2009. Carney’s website Humor and the Abject catalogues his research and writing on art and comedy, and he hosts a weekly, eponymous podcast featuring interviews with cultural producers who are very serious about being funny. He’s shown his work at venues including MOCA Los Angeles; Showroom MAMA, Rotterdam; Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago; and Marlborough Gallery, New York; amongst others. Carney contributes frequently to Art in America.
