Shinichiro Yoshida
Bio
Born in Kyoto in 1948, Shinichiro Yoshida is an artist and the leading figure in research into hemp textiles in Japan. He has more than 30 years of experience researching antique textiles, and is currently researching textiles made from natural materials, particularly fibers and threads of Edo-period hemp and ramie fabrics. His collaborative projects include “Riches from Rags” (San Francisco Craft and Folk Art Museum, 1994), “Taiyo Special Edition: Natural Fabrics of Japan” (Heibonsha, 2003), and “Fabrics as Demiurges—The Meaning of Fabrics for Mankind”(Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, 2017).
