Steve Keene
Bio
Virginia-born Brooklyn resident Steve Keene has produced more than 300,000 hand-painted works via his studio/chain-link fence cage where he paints more than 50 paintings at a time. He’s known for making affordable art—offering six random pieces for $70 on his website to this day—as well as being the indie-rock cover artist for Pavement, the Apples in Stereo, and Silver Jews. In June 2022, The Steve Keene Art Book was released via Hat & Beard. It offers the first-ever collection of Keene’s output. Produced by Dan Efram, the book features a collection of 277 of Keene’s works alongside essays and contributions from fans like Cat Power, Shepard Fairey, Ryan McGinness, Will Oldham, and more. A 30-year retrospective show on his art ran from July 28 through August 12 in Los Angeles.
