Vanessa Raw
Bio
Vanessa Raw is a British painter whose work explores the entanglement of body, landscape, and myth. Drawing on Greek and Mexican cosmologies, she depicts female figures in states of transformation, where distinctions between self and environment begin to dissolve. Her paintings unfold as immersive, sensorial spaces in which the body is not separate from the world, but continuous with it. Raw was awarded the Arts Council Collection Frieze Acquisitions Fund in 2025. She has presented solo exhibitions at the Rubell Museum, Miami (This Is How the Light Gets In, 2024), Casa Lamm, Mexico City (2026), and Carl Freedman Gallery, Margate (On Earth We Weren’t Meant to Stay, 2024), where she is represented. In 2023, she was nominated by Tracey Emin for a solo presentation as part of Frieze London’s Artist-to-Artist section. Raw earned a BA in Fine Art from Loughborough University and was awarded a studio at TKE Studios in 2022. She lives and works in Margate, England.
