Zohra
Bio
Zohra is a singer/songwriter/producer. She grew up surrounded by her father and family friends playing Afghan folk and pop in the living room till dawn, and she woke up to her older sisters dancing in their bedroom to the Monkees, Pink Floyd, and New Order. As a teenager, Zohra covered her bedroom walls with posters of Lydia Lunch and Kate Bush, and went to school wearing an oversized Babes In Toyland t-shirt. She eventually moved to NYC and formed the dark Americana/Afghanistana folk rock band, Religious To Damn. She has written essays for Talkhouse and Hazlitt. She is currently one half (the other half being Vaura/Blacklist/RtD’s Joshua Strachan) of the duo, Azar Swan. Her debut solo album, Murder In The Temple was recently released on American Dreams Records.
