Bio
Saidiya Hartman is the author of Scenes of Subjection: Terror, Slavery, and Self-making in Nineteenth Century America (Oxford University Press, 1997) and Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2007). She is on the editorial board of Callaloo, a journal of literature, art, and culture of the African Diaspora. She is a Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. She has been a Cullman, Fulbright, Rockefeller, Whitney Oates, and University of California President’s Fellow. She has a forthcoming book called Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments (Norton).
