Sen Morimoto
Bio
Sen Morimoto is a musician, producer, and, along with friend and collaborator Nnamdi Ogbonnaya, a co-owner of Sooper Records. His newest collection, a self-titled album that came out in October 2020 via Sooper, is indicative of Chicago’s close-knit, genre-defying DIY scene, featuring indie rock’s Lala Lala, rapper Joseph Chilliams, R&B singer KAINA, and more. In the summer of 2020, he refused to cut his criticism of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s handling of Black Lives Matter protests from a taped performance scheduled for a performance series hosted by the city. Morimoto released the audio from that session on Bandcamp, with all proceeds benefiting the Prison and Neighborhood Arts Project, an organization that connects artists and scholars with people at the Stateville Prison through classes, workshops, and guest lectures.
