Ursula Von Rydingsvard
Bio
Bushwick-based artist Ursula von Rydingsvard makes monumental sculptures using cedar and occasionally bronze. Von Rydingsvard’s work is part of numerous public and private collections and this season alone, is exhibiting at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (until April 2019), the Fabric Workshop and Museum (closing August 26), and Galerie LeLong in New York (closing June 23). Her sculptures are assigned mischievous human characteristics as she speaks, often referring to them as “she” or “he” and the way they misbehave. A sensitive and prolific artist, von Rydingsvard is often required to stand on a lift and wear a protective face mask and earplugs while making intuitive gestures in graphite, all to fabricate the work she so clearly envisions.
