Voyage Around My Room
The author of this book, a young Italian aristocrat living during the 18th century, was sentenced to confinement within his house for 42 days. During his imprisonment, he wrote a parody on the travelogue, the popular format of the time. He would “look at the furniture, engravings, etc., as if they were scenes from a voyage in a strange land.” He recommends this type of voyage because it does not cost anything. To anyone found in unfortunate circumstances, this book is an inspiration to use those circumstances as possible fuel for something new and hopeful.
