Gerardo Contreras on being a curator

What makes a good curator?

A curator must be fucked in the head, perpetually manic, and always, always working.

A good curator is not in it for the money.

A curator is passionate.

A curator is restless and confused.

A good curator’s work is weird.

A good curator is often an architect.

Of course, I abuse drugs, I’m an art curator.

About the Author

Gerardo Contreras

Curator, Writer

Gerardo Contreras has always been done with the art world establishment. He calls his Preteen Gallery an “ongoing curatorial experiment.” Based in Mexico City, Contreras, who is a writer as well as curator, doesn’t feel confined to the city. He can work wherever in the world he can find “beauty, a good psychiatrist, and easy access to prescription medication.” Here, he describes what he thinks makes a good curator. We previously spoke to him about the pain of the creative process.
